The fast bowler Set to Play a Significant Contribution in Ashes Series

Australian cricket captain

The pace bowler has taken 309 wickets in 71 appearances with an average of 22.10.

Australia's chief selector Bailey has confirmed that pace spearhead Cummins will have a crucial role in the forthcoming Ashes series.

There were concerns that Cummins might be unavailable due to a stress fracture in his back that had not yet healed.

Initial reports from the Australian camp suggested no definitive call had been made regarding whether he would play, with the extended contest kicking off on the 21st of November in the WACA.

The selector shared that his recovery is on track and felt positive about the prospects of being involved.

"We know that the window is narrowing and multiple considerations involved, not just his injury, but additional elements," the selector added.

"The outlook is good. We firmly believe that he will feature a significant role. Ideally starting in Perth. If not, we'll adjust."

Injury History

Cummins was ruled out the ODI and T20 games against both Asian and Trans-Tasman rivals recently after scans revealed a stress reaction in his back.

There is a track record of recurring issues, with setbacks in several earlier campaigns causing him to miss three Australian summers in a limited period.

Cummins stated he would be ""aggressive" and "take risks" in his recovery plan to secure his spot for the contest.

The selector indicated that there was no confirmation if he had started his bowling workouts as part of his comeback but acknowledged it was "getting tight" for him to recover fully for the first Test.

Contingency Plans

Should Cummins not be fit, ex-skipper Smith will lead the side.

Versatile player Green was recently pulled out from the national team for their limited-overs matches against the Asian giants as a precautionary measure because of discomfort in his torso.

The selector characterized it as a "slight concern and mentioned that he'll feature in the domestic first-class competition, so will be "well-prepared to deliver overs."

"Extensive planning has gone into building out the plan for him to participate for the first Test as an all-rounder," Bailey explained.

"Originally, he'd only feature in the first two ODIs anyway. His aggressive style the cricket bat in white-ball cricket, should it hinder progress for 24 more hours, the choice was made to take a cautious route."
