The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Might Solve This

As any significant awards ceremony nears, one notices a clamor for introducing additional classifications to recognize unsung work and delight the passions of fans dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator has already made for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. The same goes for strategy board titles, this being a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward just as with other blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification supporting my request remains most pressing above others. Here's the proposal: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and it will always spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise within the realm of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse they barely qualify a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards presently include genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types effectively encompass numerous genres, allowing placement for numerous titles.

Not so for logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Consider three of this year’s best games, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games released every year without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated for anything during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release was excluded that year
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked that year
  • Limited numbers of logic titles managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent small games, however the design of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games rank among most engaged experiences globally and have been for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title rivals well-known building titles for the title of best-selling game of all time; it also contends as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. One could readily select multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers operate at the demanding boundary game development, producing among essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Just like film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait generations.
